Grandparents Raising Grandchildren offers support groups on the second
and fourth Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Gulfport Senior Center, 5501 27
Avenue S. in Gulfport on the last Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
They provide support, referrals, legal guidance, and resources.

Dog Obedience Training

A Dog Obedience Training class starts Wednesday, March 3, from 6-7
p.m. for adult dogs six months of age and up. Classes will be held at the
Gulfport Neighborhood Center (1617 49 Sreet. S.) Cost is $100 or $75 if dog
is adopted for the seven-week session to be paid at registration. This class
is pre-registration only. Learn the basic commands of heel, sit, down,
come when called, stay and looseleash walking. After completing this
course participants will be eligible for be tested for The K-9 Good Citizen

New Zumba Class

The Gulfport Recreation Center is now offering Zumba classes. Zumba
is an international dance cardio workout that incorporates dances
such as Salsa, Merengue, Hip Hop, etc., with no experience needed.
Classes will be on Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. starting March 4. The
cost is $10 per class or $8 per class if you pay by the month. Please contact

Chamber Seeks to Lend a Helping Hand

The Gulfport Chamber of Commerce office located in the Bank of America
Building at 2808 58 Street will now take donations of school supplies and
non-perishable goods to assist local residents in need. These donations will be distributed to the appropriate Gulfport entities to make sure they are used to benefit our neighbors. Please drop off items at the Chamber office between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. For more information call 344-3711.

Fish Fry at Gulfport United Methodist

The annual United Methodist Men’s Fish Fry has been set for Friday,
March 5 from 5-7 p.m. by the United Methodist Men of First United
Methodist Church. Dinner will be served in the fellowship hall at the
church, 2728 53 Street S. Featuring the always popular menu of fried
fish, cole slaw, tartar sauce, baked bean, hushpuppies, grits, tea, coffee
and dessert and all you care to eat at a donation of $7.95, this annual
event continues be bigger and better each year. Take outs are available.

“Antiques in the Park”

Gulfport’s new “Antiques in the Park” series will return to Clymer
Park on Saturday, March 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This outdoor
antiques and collectibles fair is co-sponsored by the Gulfport Lions
Club and the City of Gulfport and is held in the first block of Beach
Boulevard at the intersection of Gulfport Boulevard. There will be a
great assortment of vintage fun for sale at Antiques in
the Park, including estate jewelry, old pottery, art, china and glassware,
clocks, old beer signs, tools, linens, toys, and furniture. Admission and

Gulfport Chief Speaks at So49 Meeting

Gulfport Police Chief Vincent contacted the 49th Street South
Business Association (more commonly called So49) and offered
to attend one of their meetings to discuss crime and other issues in
the area. He will be their guest speaker at the Wednesday, March 10
meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Gulfport Neighborhood Center located on 49th St.

They are currently planning for and/or working on the Community Garden, the Blues Fest and a possible block party on the Greenway in conjunction with National Night Out

Shrimp Boil at the Gulfport Lions Club

The Gulfport Lions Club will hold their third Shrimp Boil on Saturday,
March 13 from 4-8 p.m. at their den at 4630 Tifton Drive S. in Gulfport
(right behind the Marina). Rain or Shine. The menu features a great supply of
fresh, peel and eat shrimp, homemade hushpuppies and cole slaw, baked
beans, cocktail sauce, coffee and iced tea and dessert. A generous 1/2 pound
(weighed before cooking) serving for everyone at a cost of $8 per person,
Additional shrimp can be purchased at $4 per 1/2 pound. This is not an
all you can eat dinner for a one time cost (as most of their events are).
Children under 10 years of age are half price. You are welcome to bring
your favorite beverage as we cannot sell beer or wine.
Plenty of tickets will be available at the door, or contact any of your
Lion friends. This is a Gulfport Lions Activities Project, with all of the net
proceeds generated to be allocated to their community outreach programs,
especially Sight First activities, as are all of their fund-raiser projects.
Please make sure you are part of this popular annual social event. If
you need directions call them at the Lions Den at 321-7859 the day of the
event. Their next fundraising event will be a Pancake Breakfast on April 3 and
May 8.

Chamber Seeks to Lend a Helping Hand

The Gulfport Chamber of Commerce office located in the Bank of America
Building at 2808 58 Street will now take donations of school supplies and
non-perishable goods to assist local residents in need. These donations will be distributed to the appropriate Gulfport entities to make sure they are used to benefit our neighbors. Please drop off items at the Chamber office between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. For more information call 344-3711.

Bobby Hendricks at the Casino

TDC - the band, a group of the best studio musicians in the country
will be backing up one of the best entertainers of all time, Mr. Bobby Hendricks of The Original Drifters at the Gulfport Casino on Friday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. The evening
will get started with TDC going down Motown memory lane with the greatest hits of the era, culminating with Mr. Hendricks singing all the hits that have given him the opportunity to sing from Las Vegas to Japan. He has sung with all the greats including Paul Anka and

Free Theater on the Bay

This will be the last night of movie magic under the stars. City of Gulfport’s “Theater on the Bay” is Friday, March 19 at 7 p.m. on the Recreation Field (the corner of Shore
Blvd. S. and 58th St. S.). The free movie is Night at the Museum 2; rated PG. In this second installment of the Night at the Museum saga, Larry faces a very serious battle. He must try to save his friends at the museum from what could be their last stand.

Be sure to bring chairs, blankets, family and friends by Boca Ciega Bay under the stars! The Teen Council will provide concessions for purchase. And best of all, the movie

Theatre Walk Comes to Gulfport’s Art District

After a four year hiatus, Three Muses & A Fool Productions is excited to present its 9th Theatre Walk “Smitings”. This lively theatrical event centers around six short plays written by award-winning writer, and author of the “hauntingly hilarious”, “Still Life with Bulls and Sangria”. This year, The Walk is led by a disgruntled substitute Sunday School teacher, trying her best to recall the biblical stories she’s supposed to be teaching. She ushers her “class” through Gulfport’s Art District, where her peculiar recollections of Goliath, Samson & Delilah, Jesus, Joan of Arc, and even the Norse God Odin materialize on the streets.
Directed by Ciara Carinci, the cast includes veteran Walkers Jim Greene, Lynda Kavy, Tom Laitinin, Bethany Peabody and Peter Suarez. Performances are March 25, 26, 27, April 1 and 3, Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. The Walk commences at the Courtyard Village on Beach Blvd. in Gulfport’s Art District. Players to Hold Membership Meeting

The Gulfport Community Players will hold a General Membership
Meeting on Friday, March 26 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the
Players’ Back Door Theater, located at 4919 17 Avenue S. in Gulfport.
Look for their sign on 49th Street South. The Treasurer will present
financial reports on the Players and you can also see the set for
their next play, “Cookin’ with Gus” while at this meeting. Present and
past members are welcome, as well as anyone interested in finding out
more about the Gulfport Community Players. Join them for the meeting
and learn more about their group and their work in bringing quality
