The City of Gulfport will be hosting the 2010 Hurricane Seminar on Thursday, May 27th, 7 p.m. at the Historic Gulfport Casino Ballroom at 5500 Shore Blvd. S. in Gulfport. The City of Gulfport's guest speaker for this year is newly arrived meteorologist from News channel 8, Brooks Garner. Garner was the chief meteorologist at the biggest station in South Carolina, WIS-TV in Columbia for five years, where he's covered seemingly countless hurricanes including Katrina. Brooks holds the National Weather Association and American Meteorological Society Seals of Approval.
New hurricane evacuation maps will be available and several vendors will be involved in this event: American Red Cross, Gulfport Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Gulfport Community development, Gulfport Fire Department, Gulfport Police Department, Home Depot, Hurricane Window and Doors, Pinellas County Communications, West Coast Insurance and Whitco Insurance.
