Let’s Paint! An Informal Art Workshop with Artist/Muralist Keith Stillwagon
The Longhouse and City of Imagination will host an informal art workshop with Artist/Muralist Keith Stillwagon.
Keith will share his visionary painting techniques;his knowledge and experience with brush, acrylic, canvas and other surfaces;teach use of various materials and brushes;how to save money when purchasing materials; and more.
Students are welcome to bring their own easel, paint, brushes, canvas or other paint surfaces, but items will also be available for use and/or at cost. Teens and adults only please. Another workshop geared more to younger artists is planned in the future.
Mr. Stillwagon works in a genre referred to as American visionary painting. This genre found great popularity in California during the height of the culture change of the 1960s. It shares common links to traditional painting found in India as well as European surrealism. American visionary painting incorporates the brilliant colors of the Indian style of painting and removes the personal detachment associated with European surrealism to achieve a dreamlike vision. Influences of Aubrey Beardsley, Maxfield Parrish, Alfonse Mucha, Da Vinci and Caravaggio are evident in his works.
Some of his works can be seen in and on various buildings in Gulfport, on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg, Treasure Island, government buildings (e.g., Federal Building in Lakeland, Florida) and abroad (e.g., two resorts on the Caribbean, near Montpelier in Languedoc Rosillon, France).
