NAMASTE: A Photographic Interpretation Of Yoga Practice (6:30 pm - 7:30 pm)
NAMASTE: A Photographic Interpretation of Yoga Practice by MarianKrauthamer
Artist Statement: When invited by Omega to create a photographic experience for the summer of 2009, yoga seemed a viable option because it is an integral part of Omega's curriculum and an integral part of my own life. Merging this physical/spiritual practice with the visual/spiritual art of photography resulted in what I believe are truly soul-filled images that now represent an emerging and a continuous body of work. A practice in itself. I found that in the process of capturing yoga practitioners in their practice reflected back to me what I seek in my own life: being more meditative, contemplative and finding more in less. The essence of the show is that yoga is not about perfection, but being alive and focused in the practice. This show is not a manual, rather an attempt to capture the beauty and subtlety of the human form in yogic practice, which embodies strength, agility, grace, meditation, beauty, form and serenity. It was my intent to capture the asanas or postures, the transitions between asanas, or the bodies at rest. I shot this series anonymously in order to surrender the "ego". All participants are yoga instructors or committed practitioners. NAMASTE is the composite of two Sanskrit words, one translation: The light within me honors the light within you.
To learn more about Marian and her work visit www.MarianKrauthamer.com. Opening Reception: Friday July 9, 2010, 6:30-8:00pm, Artist Talk at 7pm.
FREE and open to the public.

Nomadic Tendencies is bringing its Sea Breeze Film Festival to Gulfport, offering independent, international films to a local audience. The film events also help filmmakers gain greater exposure for their films. Sea Breeze Film Festival screens films of all lengths and genres from around the world. Large, commercial film distributors and venues can rarely afford to take on smaller films. The goal of the Festival is to ensure audiences in Tampa Bay have the opportunity to see films that would not otherwise be available to them.
The festival will be held on three days from Friday, July 23rd through Sunday, July 25th at Gulfport’s Catherine Hickman Theater, 5501 27th Ave. South (enter on 26th Ave. South). Screenings take place from 2 p.m. until 11 p.m. each day. For advance tickets, go online to seabreeze.eventbrite.com. Tickets will also be available at the Theater during the festival.
The festival will screen 26 films, including ten features, five documentaries, three student films and three animated films. Ten countries are represented by films at the festival: USA, UK, Germany, China, Singapore, Iceland, Netherlands, Serbia/Montenegro, Spain and Canada.
Titles include: the Dutch short film Blossom, about a young woman unable to speak and her challenges interacting in a speaking world; the American documentary American Dumpling, which explores the ties that bind diverse cultures through a common food that each shares: the dumpling; Karaoke Show, a German animated short film, described as a mix of sauna and disco; Severing the Soul, an American experimental documentary exploring the psychosurgery movement of the 1930s to 1960s, including found footage about Rosemary Kennedy’s 1941 lobotomy procedure; and The Symmetry of Love, a British comedy feature exposing the tangled lives of a journalist, an architect, a psychiatrist, a novelist, a librarian and others. More information, film schedules and selected film trailers will be posted to SeaBreezeFilmFestival.blogspot.com.
Nomadic Tendencies has chosen to hold their latest event in Gulfport due to the location’s communal, artistic environment and vibe. There is plenty of indoor space at the Theater to beat the heat, meet and mingle with fellow filmmakers and film lovers between films. The Theater is a short walk to Gulfport’s Waterfront District, including several unique shops, galleries and restaurants. This event is meant to expose local filmmakers to the works of fellow filmmakers from around the world as well as offering alternative films to the community. Much-Wed ''MAMA'' Comes To Sea Breeze Manor (2:00 pm - 3:00 pm)
Much-Wed ''MAMA'' Comes to Sea Breeze Manor
Who doesn't love a wedding? The ''Mama'' character in a nationally acclaimed mystery series loves them so much, she's tying the sacred knot for a fifth time. What's a Bridezilla to do, though, when her caterer winds up dead even before the first pig-in-a-blanket is passed?
The Sea Breeze Manor Bed & Breakfast Inn in Gulfport will host a ''Mama Gets Hitched'' book signing and open house Sat., Aug. 28, from 2-3 p.m. Author Deborah Sharp, a former USA Today reporter, will be on hand. Light refreshments will be served. Tacky wedding wear is encouraged, but optional.
The book is the third in Sharp's funny, Florida-set series, compared by ''Kirkus Reviews'' to Janet Evanovich: ''Stephanie Plum goes into the backwoods in an amusingly wild ride . . .''
A former resident of the Tampa Bay area, Sharp has appeared on the Today Show. She chatted with Al Roker about the switch from journalism to mysteries, and her colorful Mama character. (Links to TV interviews may be found on the Events page of the author's website: http://www.deborahsharp.com/deborah_sharp_events.php
Mama may be a serial bride, but she sees no reason to scale back. Her daughters sport Scarlett O'Hara gowns, and her pet Pomeranian, in doggy vest and top hat, is the ring-bearer. It’s the Wedding of the Century, until a corpse at the VFW and a suspect list as long as the gift registry threaten to turn Mama’s special day especially deadly.
''Publishers Weekly'' says of MAMA GETS HITCHED (Midnight Ink, 2010, $14.95): ''Sibling rivalry, steamy romance, a surprising killer, and plenty of catfish and hush puppies make this Southern cozy a winner.''
The series debuted in 2008, with MAMA DOES TIME. In 2009, MAMA RIDES SHOTGUN was released. The author saddled up to research that book's setting on the week-long, cross-state Florida Cracker Trail ride. Sharp lives in her hometown of Fort Lauderdale with her husband, Kerry Sanders, a reporter for NBC News.
What: ''Mama Gets Hitched'' Book Signing and Open House When: Sat., Aug. 28, 2-3 pm Where: Sea Breeze Manor 5701 Shore Blvd. Gulfport, Fl 33707 Contact for information about event: (727) 343-4445
