Audition for “Gulfport - The Musical”

The City of Gulfport will be celebrating its Centennial in January, 2010. Throughout the whole year of 2010, the City of Gulfport will be celebrating this historical event with many happenings throughout the City. As a kickoff to these festivities, the City of Gulfport and the Gulfport Community Players jointly will be staging a brand new Gil Perlroth musical at the Catherine A. Hickman Theater of Gulfport entitled, “Gulfport - The Musical”. The director for this play will be Daniel Harris and he will need a total of 26 people with some very special talents for his cast. The auditions will be held on Sept. 14th and 15th at the Back Door Theater at 7 p.m. The Back Door Theater is located at 4919 17 Avenue S. in Gulfport. Daniel will need both males and females, ranging in age from 6 to 80. He will also need 6 or 7 children, ages 6 to 12 for the play. All people will have to be able to sing. Bring music in your own key to the auditions, a pianist will be provided by the Players. Be prepared to sing a “bright” number (no love ballads, please!). Two people must be able to waltz. There will be ensemble, group, and solo singing in the play. Rehearsals will begin a week after
the auditions end. The actual play will run for 3 weeks from January 8th through January 24th, 2010. Make sure that you have enough free time for all the rehearsals required.
This play took over a year to write, with the able assistance of Lynne Brown as the historian to help out. It is based on fact, although some poetic license has been taken to make it more enjoyable for the audiences. This is a unique musical, both entertaining and educational, and fit for the whole family. Become a part of history! Stop on by and audition for this once-in-a lifetime chance!
